§ 2-21. Salaries and expenses to be set by ordinance.

  • (a)

    The city council may determine the annual salary of the mayor and council members by ordinance, but no ordinance changing such salary shall become effective until the date of commencement of the terms of the mayor and council members elected at the next general election following the change. The mayor and council members may also receive payment for actual expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties within the limitations prescribed by ordinance.

    (b)

    The salaries of the councilmembers shall be seventeen thousand five hundred dollars ($17,500.00) per year. Further, each councilmember shall be limited to no more than four (4) out-of town overnight trips per year that are funded with city funds or city-administered grant funds.

    (c)

    The salary of the mayor shall be increased on January 12, 2016 from one hundred sixty-two thousand eight hundred sixteen dollars ($162,816.00) to one hundred eighty thousand dollars ($180,000.00) pro-rated for the remainder of 2016 with a one and one-half (1.5) percent cost of living increase each year for 2017, 2018 and 2019, respectively.
